Shir is 17 years old and trains at the ITC – Yokneam. The oldest of three siblings, she has been living in Yokneam for most of her life. When she was in the second grade, coaches from the tennis center came to her school to show introduce the children to tennis. Shir liked the idea and she signed up for an introductory lesson at the ITC. Almost immediately, she fell in love with the sport and hasn’t stopped playing since, first on the achievement program (twice a week), and later in the High Performance program.
Today, Shir is ranked second in Israel and competes in many national and international junior and women’s tournaments. She is part of the ITC girls team, who meet once a month in Ramat Hasharon to train together.
“The tennis center is a second home for me in every way imaginable,” Shir said. “I am there nearly every day, spending hours upon hours practicing with my teammates and our devoted coaches. The tennis center is a warm environment where people care about me, believe in me – and I know my development is important to them. My personal coach and manager of the center, Sharon, has known me for over 10 years, and supports me all the time. The tennis center also supports me financially, which helps my family a lot. I really appreciate it and I always try to give back in any way that I can”.
